Is using my garbage disposal safe?
A garbage disposal in and of itself is not bad for septic systems. It’s only when you start to abuse the garbage disposal that you’ll start running into problems. Garbage disposals are note intended to assist with cleaning our your refrigerator or to be used as a trash can. They are really only intended for disposing of small amounts of food from plates as you rinse them. If you use the disposal correctly, it really won’t be detrimental to your septic system.
How often should I pump out the tank?
Every septic system is different, but it’s generally encouraged to have your septic system pumped out every 3-5 years. If septic systems have a good bacterial base, they will work for many years without issue.
Can I build over my septic tank?
It is never advisable and is against most municipal codes to build over a septic tank. Do not build any additions, pools, driveways over a tank. Also, do not build or plant on top of your drainfield.
What are symptoms of septic system failure?
A stinky area of wet soil, sometimes with visible water, may appear. Sewage may start backing up into the house and toilets may not flush properly. If you are noticing any of these issues, contact us immedately.
